Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah (MP for Dormaa West and COCOBOD Board Member) has met with Purchasing Clerks (PCs) and their District Officers at the Dormaa West Assembly Conference Hall to address the ongoing cocoa sector crisis. Reports from COCOBOD'S Quality Control in Nkrankwanta indicated farmers are withholding their cocoa stocks because they haven’t been paid for previous deliveries which threatens the livelihoods of local farmers and the stability of the sector. Hon. Asamoah reassured stakeholders that the government is fully committed to clearing all outstanding debts to PLCs and farmers before the minor crop season begins. He said the government is set to release GHC 4 billion to PLCs, with strict measures to ensure these funds reach the farmers. The COCOBOD Board Member hinted at the comeback of Produce Buying Company (PBC), Ghana’s publicly owned PLC, to strengthen the domestic market. Beyond, immediate payments, the Hon. MP highlighted that going forward the government is exploring opportunities to boost the country’s capacity to process cocoa locally to add value and reduce reliance on raw exports. The government will ensure that hard-working cocoa farmers get every cedi they are owed and work around the clock to restore confidence in the sector said, Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah.
On March 6, 2026, the Dormaa West District marked Ghana’s 69th Independence Day under the theme, Building Prosperity, Restoring hope, with a high-stakes Quiz Competition among Junior High Schools (JHS), aimed at fostering healthy competition and national pride. The DCE, Hon. Stephen Azorba delivered a blunt message, shifting the focus of the celebration from ceremonial displays to deep reflection. He emphasized that independence is a solemn time to honor national heroes and the need to inculcate the values of patriotism in children, who are the nation's future. The MP addressed the digital landscape raising concerns about the negative impact of mobile phone addiction on the academic output of students while challenging them to embrace IT and AI as the future. He announced a new scholarship program for successful B.E.C.E. candidates. The students were excited about the quiz competition. The general consensus was that this format provided more tangible value to the children’s development than a standard parade. The traditional Representative and Chairperson of the event praised the united front shown by the DCE, MP, and District Director of Education in their commitment to education in the district and encouraged the students to maximize the educational opportunities being provided by the district and the state. The competition tested students on History, Governance and Current Affairs with Saint Anthony JHS, Nkrankwanta winning the day and was awarded educational materials and certificates of merit

The District Committee of the Ghana Aids Commission was formally inaugurated yesterday, 25th February, 2026 at the Dormaa West Assembly Hall. It is part of efforts to decentralize the national response to HIV/AIDS and strengthen local oversight. The DCE, Hon. Stephen Azorba stated that HIV/AIDS is a health issue rather than a moral one, urging the public to move away from judgmental attitudes and called for a unified front to prevent new infections and reduce the prevalence rate within the district. On February 4, 2026, the Dormaa West District officially launched the first phase of the "Nkoko Nkitinkiti" initiative. This program is a flagship component of the broader Feed Ghana agenda aimed at achieving food sovereignty and economic resilience. The launch marks a significant transition from policy to practice within the district. A total of 300 selected individuals and households will benefit from over 9,000 day-old chicks across the district. Beneficiaries will receive feed support, cages, and technical guidance to ensure high survival rates and long-term sustainability. In his brief address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Stephen Azorba Awuni, highlighted the administration's commitment to fulfilling campaign promises made by the Mahama-led government. Hon. Awuni made a strong plea to the community to keep the program non-partisan. He emphasized that the initiative is designed to benefit all Ghanaians. He reiterated that the program is a deliberate move to curb the heavy importation of frozen chicken, which currently costs the nation millions of dollars annually. The program is expected to transform the local economy of Dormaa West by providing direct employment for 300 families and indirect opportunities in the feed and marketing value chain. It will improve households’ access to affordable, high-quality animal protein and transition subsistence farmers into small-scale agribusiness entrepreneurs. The traditional leadership and beneficiaries have welcomed the initiative with high optimism. Mr. Akrugu, a beneficiary, expressed profound gratitude to the government, the MP, and the DCE for fulfilling the government’s campaign promise
