The Dormaa West District Assembly, a beneficiary of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme—a social intervention initiative designed to support vulnerable households across Ghana—successfully engaged the District LEAP Implementation Committee (DLIC) on Wednesday, 15th January, 2025 at the Assembly Conference Hall, in preparation for the upcoming nationwide LEAP reassessment exercise. The reassessment exercise aims to enhance the programme’s effectiveness by updating beneficiary records and addressing inclusion and exclusion errors. This initiative seeks to ensure that only eligible households continue to receive support, thereby improving resource allocation and enhancing the programme’s overall impact. Leading the session, the District Reassessment Team—led by the District Director of Social Welfare and Community Development—delivered a comprehensive presentation on the reassessment exercise. Stakeholders were briefed on the purpose of the exercise and the implementation strategies. He emphasized that the primary objective of the reassessment exercise is to ensure value for money where only the most vulnerable households will benefit from the programme. The reassessment will enable the programme to allocate resources efficiently and effectively, ensuring that support reaches those who truly need it. Additionally, roles to be played by the DLIC during implementation of the exercise were outlined. The District Coordinating Director, PLN. Iddrisu Mahama, therefore called for the full support of all stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the exercise in the district. He also assured the Reassessment Team of the Assembly’s commitment to providing the necessary assistance for a smooth rollout of the exercise. The engagement session was attended by key district officials, including the District Development Planning Officer, the District Statistical Officer, the District Director of National Commission for Civic Education, the District Director of Ghana Health Service, the District Director of Ghana Education Service, the District Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority, the District Director of Agriculture, Chairman of the District Social Services Sub-Committee, and a representative of faith-based organisation.
